Agro-Bio Fibre Sdn Bhd – Pioneering the manufacture of Medium Density Fibreboards from oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB)

This eco-friendly and innovative technology was jointly developed with the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM). It does not only reduce environmental pollution during bulk biomass (EFB) disposal within the oil palm industry, but it also enables the production of intrinsic fibres that are suitable for the manufacturing of high value-added end products such as Medium Density Fibreboards (MDF), High Density Fibreboards (HDF), mulching mats, cushion & mattress fibres, pulp for paper, moulded food containers, etc. As a result of many years of R&D, ABF has successfully perfected the manufacturing process for the manufacture of MDF from EFB, done research & equipment development since 1998. All of ABF’s manufacturing processes are patented.

Similar to existing wood-based fibreboards, palm-based fibreboards are also useful for many industrial applications such as flooring, partitions, furniture, kitchen cabinets, acoustic systems, etc. ABF Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) complies with the requirements of EN622-5 standard, with standard size of 4’ x 8’ and thickness range of 9mm, 12mm, 15mm and 18mm.

As a pioneer and the only manufacturer in the world that produces MDF and HDF from 100% EFB, we are proud of our technology which enables the conversion of a low-grade waste biomass to high-grade raw materials for the production of premium fibreboards.
